Brown Finishes 6th, 7th in Twin 25 Races
After fighting an ill-handling car in both 25 lap events on Saturday night at Bowman Gray Stadium, Tim Brown was only able to pilot the No. 83 Hayes Jewelers modified to 6th and 7th place finishes.
The less-than-desired results put Brown a few more points behind in the standings, yet maintaining the 3rd spot.
The series of unlucky events that plagued the No. 83’s evening began in first practice when he felt the car was too loose. The Brown Motorsports crew made some adjustments to the car, and later that evening Brown landed a 3rd place starting position after posting a time of 13.506 seconds in qualifying.
As the sun was setting, hot and humid temperatures remained to greet the starting line up for the first 25 lap race. Misfortune struck early as Brown began to fall back through the field in the opening few laps. Trying to hold on to fourth position, the No. 23 of Brian Loftin made contact with Brown, quickly sending him back to fifth place. The Rocket, struggling with the handling of his modified, radioed to his crew that the car was loose and needed adjustments before the next race. Over the closing circuits, Brown battled with the No. 53 of Jonathan Brown for fifth position before having to close in on sixth, where he remained until crossing the checkered on lap 25.
When 8th was drawn for the Madhouse Scramble, Brown was set to start third in the second 25 lap race. As the green flag was displayed, Brown found himself instantly battling with the No. 40 of Brad Robbins for second position, before being locked in on it by lap 3. Only three circuits later, the event’s first yellow flag was waved.. As the field came around to take the green flag once again, Brown, still in second, closed in, focused on trying to make his way to the lead. However, he quickly found that the handling of his car had not improved from the previous race, and began losing ground. After a few more circuits, the No. 53 of Jonathan Brown made contact with Brown, knocking him out of the groove. Fighting for every position throughout the final series of laps, Brown piloted the No. 83 Hayes Jewelers modified to a 7th place finish.
“I expect more from myself and my team, and will work harder than ever to put the Hayes Jewelers Chevrolet back in victory lane soon. I want to thank all my fans for standing behind me through this season, for it has not gone as well as planned. I set very high goals for myself and my team, and will continue to do so. Five poles and two wins out of eight weeks of racing still is not good enough for me, we must do better.” stated Brown.
Although it hasn’t been the season Brown had hoped for, he won’t give up. The Rocket will return to the Madhouse on July 10 for the Great Clips 100 to try to rally his way to another victory!
